Castleshaw - Building Resilience in the Outdoors!

25/3/2017

Last week all Key Stage One classes visited Oldham's Countryside Centre, Castleshaw, to learn about animals, habitats and the countryside.
The weather changed each day and the children experienced rain, snow, hail, cold and, at the end of the week, some sunshine!
We wore special waterproofs that kept us dry, even when we fell in the mud!

In Year One we are learning about The Great Fire of London. We have learnt that the fire started in Thomas Farriner's Bakery on Pudding Lane. We baked our own bread like Thomas Farriner would have done to sell in his shop.

Luckily, Sheena our school cook, helped us to bake the bread in her kitchen so we didn't start the Great Fire of Stanley Road!

As part of our Topic this term (Law and Order) we looked at what Parliament is and how it works. We held a mock parliament and made thought of new rules for school that had to be created bu the House of Commons. These were then passed to the House of Lords to discuss them before going to the Queen (or King in our case) to be signed off.

Look at the pictures of our Parliament in action!

Our performance was a huge success. It was lovely to see so many parents after all the children's hard work and practicing.
The children had very clear voices and were very confident in performing.

Well done Key Satge 1!

Police Visit

We have had a very busy week this week in Early Years! As part of our 'Dream It!' week, we have been talking to the children about different jobs. On Monday evening a 'thief' snuck into our Library and stole all of our reading books, leaving behind a rather large mess! The children worked together to hunt for clues and to cordon off the 'crime scene.' We discussed who we should call in an emergency such as this, and PC Haroon Akram came into school to help us solve the mystery and to talk to us about his very important job as a Police Officer. In the end it was discovered that a big Bad Wolf was the culprit, and he was safely arrested.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and even had a chance to sit in PC Akram's Police van!
