Year 5 began their Amazing Authors topic this week, kicking off with some journal writing, inspired by Michael Morpurgo (who is our amazing author). Take a look at the photographs from the day, along with our newsletter and KIRFs for this half term.
In Year 6 this term we are reading Goodnight Mr. Tom. This book links to our new topic - World War 2. The children are really enjoying this book so far and are looking forwards to finding out what happens to Willie and Mr. Tom.
Year 4 have moved onto a new topic, Vikings and Anglo-Saxons. On our entry day we researched facts from history and discovered the Vikings invaded England from Norway, Denmark and Sweden settling mainly in the middle of the country. They used runes to write, these are an ancient Germanic alphabet. As a class 4GH created an historic timeline working together.
Year Five journeyed to Chester Zoo to experience the Islands exhibit and see a range of rainforest creatures.
An excited year 4 group journeyed to Knowsley Safari Park to view the animals they had researched in class during their topic lessons.
On Friday 14th October year 4 classes went on a learning journey to Knowsley Safari Park. This ties in with their topic lessons on South Africa, when they have researched South African animals and their habitats, looked at the life and impact of Nelson Mandela and read the modern classic 'Journey to Jo'Burg written by Beverley Naidoo.
On Monday 10th October, year 3 classes visited The Blue Planet Aquarium as part of their topic work. They were able to view many different species of fish at close quarters, in a habitat made similar to their habitat in the wild. David provided specialised information in a classroom setting, then everyone viewed a fish feeding session by a diver and toured the aquarium site. The highlight was traveling through a glass tunnel, whilst the sharks, rays and other colourful fish swam above.
In our Year 5 guided reading we have been reading 'The Twits'. We would give it 5 out of 5.
The author of this book is Roald Dahl, the illustrator is Quentin Blake who has illustrated most of Roald Dahl's books.
Another book we have been reading is Matilda, we suggest you read it!

The Great Kapok Tree…..
By Lynne Cherry
This term year 5 have been focusing on a book called ‘The Great Kapok Tree’.
The Great Kapok Tree is about a man wanting to cut down a special tree but the animals persuade him not to.
This story is based in the Amazon Rainforest. The Rainforest is a part of Brazil, which is found in South America.

In Year 5 we have really enjoyed our art lessons and learned a lot. We are creating rainforest images by layering the pictures each week. On the first week we made the background using a colour wash technique. There are two types we have been using, wet on wet and wet on dry. We then started adding on some trees and animals. This is what we are aiming to achieve.
