LATIN AT STANLEY ROAD
We were asked to take part in some filming to help promote the teaching of Latin in primary schools.  As you will probably know, we have been teaching Latin in school for the last few years and have become one of the most prominent schools in the UK for teaching this subject.  Here is the video featuring our pupils and teachers...

Sounds-Write Phonics Programme

If you would like to find out more about how we teach young children to read and write at Stanley Road and would like to help your child to grow in confidence then we recommend all parents of children in Reception and Year 1 complete the Sounds-Write Parents' course at the link here - SOUNDS-WRITE PARENTS' COURSE PART 1

A second parent course for children at the end of Year 1 and those in Year 2 is available here - SOUNDS-WRITE PARENTS' COURSE PART 2
The courses consist of a number of short videos to watch which give parents the knowledge they need to help their child develop into a confident reader and writer.

Parent Opinions of Stanley Road

"Fantastic work from all staff to ensure all children are happy and secure at school, interested in their learning and making fab progress. The safeguarding at this school is fab, children feel they are safe and can approach staff to discuss anything and that staff will listen to them. I couldn't be more pleased with the school's work."

“The teachers are amazing. I would recommend every parent to choose this school for their kids.”

“Parents don't realise how good this school is. I know children who have left and they miss it badly!”

"The school has exceptionally high standards and treats all children and parents with respect. All children's needs are met to the highest standards. The school has a warm welcoming nature where staff are working really hard to do their best, always challenging children to be the best they can be. I really couldn't fault the school in anything!"

"I have always been happy with the ethos and atmosphere at Stanley Road, but Mrs Howarth and the staff have really pushed the school onto the next level."

"Everything about this school is amazing. I have never had a problem that wasn't sorted straight away with any of my children."

Visitor Comments

Each year, we host a significant number of teachers and school leaders who are keen to find out more about the way we do things at Stanley Road. In particular, visitors come to see our 'three pillars' in action - exemplary behaviour, a knowledge-rich curriculum and explicit teaching.  Here are a selection of comments made by visitors to school...
"Had a wonderful day at Stanley Road Primary. Plenty of wonderful academic learning where students are happy to demonstrate what they know and behave impeccably. Everyone should visit if they can!"
Neil Almond, School Leader, London

"Enjoyed visiting Stanley Road today. I've worked in literally hundreds of schools during my career and this was by far the calmest. It wasn't 'strict' teachers demanding quiet with a 'zero tolerance' approach - just all staff working together to build a culture."
Jimmy Rotherham, Music Teacher, Leeds.

"Such impeccable behaviour in a lovely warm environment."
Allison Ash, Headteacher, Brian Clarke Academy, Oldham

"Wow! Stanley Road Primary School... incredible! I am so impressed with the excellent behaviour, focus and enthusiasm shown by all students consistently across the school. I want to teach here! Ambitious and rigorous knowledge-rich curriculum embedded. Thank you!"
Kate Jones, Teacher, Author, North Wales

"It was amazing to see your curriculum in action! The children were just fantastic in their ability to talk about their learning and the consistent knowledge-rich curriculum on offer at Stanley Road everyday! A very special place!"
Mrs Marshall, Headteacher, Northamptonshire

"I'm not showing off or anything but today I got to go to Stanley Road Primary School with my colleagues and it blew our socks off. So many highlights but Year 2's choral poetry recital was pure joy."
Jon Hutchinson,  Director of Training and Development at the Reach Foundation

"I would thoroughly recommend visiting Stanley Road to anybody who wants to know how to build a knowledge-rich curriculum that is implemented with thought and care."
Steve Davis, Headteacher, Huntingdon

"Our school team have taken so much away from our visit today. Your children are delightful and a real credit to you all. It is clear that you all work extremely hard to give each child the very best education possible. They’re very lucky to attend Stanley Road."
Claire Greenway, Headteacher, Chorley

We are proud to be school hosts for the Exemplary Leadership Programme (ELP).
The ELP enables participants from all settings to build and enact their school leadership knowledge in specific domains:
1. Establishing, embedding and maintaining exemplary behaviour culture.
2. Working with line managers and subject leaders to develop a knowledge-rich curriculum.
3. Ensuring that curriculum enactment is powerful, grounded in what we know works, and respecting subject disciplines.

If you would like your child to attend Stanley Road, please contact Oldham Council via telephone on 0161 770 4213 or via email at [email protected]
