The Stanley Road Nursery Parents' Course

Welcome to the Stanley Road Nursery Parents' Course. You should complete this course if your child is about to start nursery with us or is already attending.

The aim of the course is to make sure your child is ready to make the most of their time with us at Stanley Road.

The course is made up of a number of short videos from different websites for parents of young children. We have selected a small number of videos that will help you prepare your child to make great progress in our school.

Part One - Toilet Training

One of the most important things that parents can do to help prepare their child for school is to ensure they are able to use a toilet and are no longer using nappies during the day.  Your child will be much more confident in Nursery if they are able to use a toilet independently. The more children who are toilet-trained in Nursery, the more time our teachers can spend interacting with them and helping them to make progress with their learning.  The following videos will help you with this essential skill.

Part Two - Learning to Count

To help your child prepare for learning about numbers in Nursery, there are some simple things you can do every day to help prepare them to become confident with numbers.

Part Three - Learning to speak

There are lots of simple things that parents can do to help their child learn to speak in preparation for attending Nursery at Stanley Road. The videos below will help you to support your child's language development so that they can succeed in Nursery.

Part Four - A good night's sleep

Children who have a good bedtime routine and have a good night's sleep find learning at Nursery much easier than children who don't. Getting children into a bedtime routine can be tricky, but it makes a significant difference to their success at Nursery. The video below gives some tips to help ensure your child has a healthy bedtime routine which should lead to a good night's sleep for everyone!

Part 5 - Learning to Share

Nursery can be the first time that young children have had the experience of sharing with others. It can be difficult for them to understand that the toys and equipment in the Nursery are for everyone to use. You can help your child understand how to share by following the advice in this video.

We hope it will help you prepare your child to succeed at Nursery and beyond.  At Stanley Road, we work in partnership with parents to help your child make the most of their time with us. We know that parents who help their child with toilet training, learning to speak and to count are happier and more successful not just in Nursery but throughout their time at Stanley Road.

Finally, as your child nears the end of their time in Nursery, you will want to start thinking about how to prepare them for Reception year. This website gives useful tips and advice to help you ensure your child is ready to be successful in Reception.
