Promoting British Values at Stanley Road
At Stanley Road we aim to -
• enable children to develop their self-knowledge, self-esteem and self-confidence. • enable children to distinguish right from wrong and to respect the civil and criminal law of England. • encourage children to accept responsibility for their behaviour, show initiative, and to understand how they can contribute positively to the lives of those living and working in the locality of the school and to society more widely. • enable children to acquire a broad general knowledge of and respect for public institutions and services in England. • further tolerance and harmony between different cultural traditions by enabling children to acquire an appreciation of and respect for their own and other cultures. • encourage respect for other people. • encourage respect for democracy and support for participation in the democratic processes, including respect for the basis on which the law is made and applied in England. |
We achieve these aims through our diverse curriculum and our continual work on Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development of the children in our care. Our policies and practices fully support the development of children's values and ethics.

Parent Views on our work on British Values
We recently we ran a British Values workshop for parents to share what we are doing in this area. It was a well attended event and the parents who came were clearly interested to find out more. We asked parents to give us their opinions on what we were doing to promote British Values. Here are some of the quotes -
"It’s really good for children to learn about other’s beliefs and to respect them. Everyone is equal".
"I think the workshop is very good and it is amazing how much the children understand."
"This will bring all the children together working as one to progress for their future."
"I am happy with the way parents are involved."
"Having different nationalities in school is good."
"It is very good here. Children learn how they can respect each other. Children develop an understanding of what freedom and democracy means. Much has been done. Thank you."
